I collect a lot of art materials and tools, such as my giant collection of pens. My collection is a combination of random buys and recommendations. I don't mind sharing my collection because the majority of my tools are composed of tools used everyday. So, here's a list of tools that I use to create my artwork.
STAENTLER MARS TECHNICO 780 BLUE
These technical pencils are used by artist and designers. I use it when I'm sketching out larger drawings. These classic lead holder features a comfortable design and exceptional build quality. Using 2 mm leads, it combines the convenience and reusability of a mechanical pencil with the strength and durability of a wooden pencil.
ALVIN DRAFT/MATIC .5MM DM05
I've had this pencil for quit awhile, ever since high school actually. It feels more heavy duty compare to the other two pencils. I mostly use it for writing notes since I keep black lead in it or light sketching.
PENTEL GRAPHGEAR 500 OR 800
These technical pencils are what I use on a daily bases when drawing. I have a few ranging in different series, such as the 800 series. They are available in a range of different lead thickness and color.
pens & Markers
SAKURA PIGMA MICRON - BLACK
These are one of my go to pens. They are great for making detailed drawings and craft work. Its needle tip works well for artists, writers, and illustrators alike. Best of all, the patented, smooth flowing Pigma pigment ink is reliable, permanent, acid free, and archival quality. They come in a range of sizes and color. They even have brush tip ones that I also like to use.
ZEBRA F-301 BALLPOINT PEN .7MM
The pen is commonly dubbed as a \"work horse\" for its stainless steel body, non-slip plastic grip, sturdy metal pocket clip and smooth ink flow. These are great for doing pen sketches and they come in red and blue ink.
PENTEL SLICCI GEL PEN .25MM BLACK
I love this pen! I can get such delicate details with this pen. It comes in a range of colors and metallic. You will always find this pen in my pencil poach.
TOMBOW FUDENOSUKE BRUSH PEN -
SOFT AND HARD BODY - BLACK
I discovered these pens through a artist I follow and I liked the results it produced. The pen tip create lines that give artists and calligraphers the ability to control strokes with precision. The pen comes in two types: a soft body and a hard body. The soft body gives you more flexibility in the line weight and the hard body pen gives you more of a stiffer and consistent line weight. These are amazing pens/markers.
PENTEL POCKET BRUSH PEN GFKP3BPA
This high-quality, smooth-writing brush pen from Pentel lets the artist vary line widths from thick to thin, achieving many beautiful effects. The ink is waterproof once fully dry, and is safe for use with watercolors. It's a great tool for traveling and you don't have to worry about leakage and its refillable.
PERMAPAQUE OPAQUE MARKER - DUAL POINT
This marker comes in a range of colors but I mostly use the black marker. The marker is archival quality ink, which means it will not fade or turn a different color. It's waterproof and writes on a number of different surfaces.
This is a must have in your collection. These markers come in a range of colors and tip sizes. No matter what always have a sharpie in your collection.
WINSOR & NEWTON PROFESSIONAL WATER COLOUR SABLE ROUND 6
This brush has been with me since college. It was the only brush I could use in my sequential art class. It was somewhat hard to get use to using one brush but when I did I was able to achieve great details.
PRINCETON ART & BRUSH CO.
I specifically like the Heritage 4050 series. They are synthetic brush useful with watercolors. I create a lot of detailed traditional works with the Heritage liner, short liner and round brushes. They get the job done.
PENTEL AQUASH WATER BRUSH
The water brushes make painting with watercolors, inks, and other water-soluble media easier than ever, eliminating the need for separate paint brushes and water containers.Their portability makes them especially convenient for painting outside the house. They're also very easy to clean—just squeeze the reservoir to saturate the tip and brush it on a sponge or paper towel.
The Pentel Aquash water brushses are available in a variety of tip sizes, letting you choose the ones best-suited for your project. This medium brush is well-suited for both detailed work and filling in larger areas. (Just a bit of info from their website. They explain it better lol.)
SPEEDBALL SKETCHING PROJECT SET
This calligraphy pen and nib set gives you the tools needed to create beautiful works of art. Ideal for drawing, crosshatching, lithography, and fine details. It comes with two pen nib holders and 6 nibs that you can try.
DR.PH MARTIN'S BLACK STAR WATERPROOF INDIA IN MATTE
I use this ink quit a bit. It has a nonreflective black ink reproduces without glare when photographed or scanned and is perfect for use as a flat black wash. It works well with brushes, dip pens, and airbrushes. It is highly opaque and works well on paper, illustration board, and canvas. It contains no varnish or shellac and is lightfast, permanent, and waterproof.
Do not use this ink inside fountain pens.
The other one - the HICARB- has a glossy finish.
Made from highly opaque carbon black pigment, the Super Black India Ink offers excellent reproduction quality on absorbent surfaces with optimum lightfastness. Ideal for drawing, calligraphy, and more, it is easily applied by brush, pen, steel brush, or air brush. The ink is free-flowing, non-clogging, and waterproof.
It comes in a 2 fluid oz. container and a 16 fluid oz. bottle. I prefer the 16 fluid oz. bottle since I tend to create large drawings. But I suggest using the 2 fluid oz. one if its your first time.
sketchbooks & paper
STRATHMORE 400 SERIES SKETCH SOFTCOVER ART JOURNAL
I use to think that the moleskin sketch books were amazing and that I would never use another sketchbook... until I discovered the Strathmore sketchbooks. These sketchbooks are phenomenal! I've converted a number of art friends to this sketchbook. They come in a number of paper weights, tones of paper and size.
Sometimes when I'm drawing I like to use large loose leaf paper with jagged edges. Its a preference that I developed while taking a printmaking class. These are luxurious 100% cotton, acid-free papers that deliver excellent performance with a variety of media.
Each sheet features two deckled edges and two distinct surfaces, one smooth and one slightly textured, providing exceptional versatility for printmaking, drawing, and multi-media expression.
Similar to the Canson Edition Printmaking paper, I enjoy using loose leaf paper but sometimes I need it in larger quantities at a cheaper price.
These also come in a variety of sizes.
